Comments:  Although far away from being a jazz musician - skill- and knowledgewise - his collaboration with fusion god John McLaughlin (where he not only got away with it but proved to be by far the more elegant guitarist of the two) finally got Carlos Santana the desired reputation as a "serious" musician and straightened his path to new musical territories. "Welcome" is a great, category-defying achievement with outstanding vocals (especially worth mentioning: Leon Thomas' soulful insert on one tune!) and fabulous, gorgeous sounding Rhodeswork by Tom Coster. And yes, here I can even stand the lyrics...
