I am Rob Coops, 37 years old ; I am a professional pianotuner who specialized into customizing the Fender Rhodes.
What do I do?

Comments:  He did some amazing customizing for my Mark I & Mark II piano's. On my request, he made them both sound quite different. He made the Mark I sound like the one on my favorite Hancock albums, the Mark II more like Rob Franke's rhodes sound. Thanks Rob !!!

Comments:  I had my markI since 1981, that was played, transported and used really a lot for almost twenty-five years, so it got sort of a tired. Rob made of it a piano that is ready for next twenty-five years. He's a real Rhodes freak who definitely knows what he's talking about.
Check him out, no problemo!

Comments:  I came about a cheap 1980 mark II which at first glance looked iffy whether it would make sense to repair. It has a lot of corrosion on the tonebars and tines and hadnt been played on for a very long time. Rob did however a great job restaurating it. Without changing the tonebars he made my piano sound unbelievable and can be used for recording sessions quite well, exactly what I need it for. Great job, Rob.

Comments:  Just in time for my UK tour with Jan Akkerman, Rob finished my Rhodes Mark I(77). It just sounds like a mother@*#@@!. Great sustain, nice and bright (but warm), also in the upper registers. Inspiring sound for solo's, ass well for comping.
thanxxxxxxxxx Rob

Comments:  Rob recently services my Mk 1 73 (1976) Just like many others I am truly amazed about the result. Now my Rhodes sounds at least as good as the ones you hear in many professional recordings (yeah, including Herbie's!) Action, sustain, balance etc. are all great! Rob turned my Rhodes into the favorite instrument in my studio. Highly recommended!!

Comments:  My old crappy rhodes is fully repaired, to my satisfaction. It was hard work to play it before and now I can take it easy. It's tuned, equalized and Rob did much more I don't even know, but the repair was worth every cent.

Comments:  Rob is one of the few people who devotes *all* his time to this and can really claim it to be his profession. And I can tell you it makes a difference. Both my mark 1 '74 and mark V were completely transformed into most responsive and *versatile* instruments. Non-customized rhodes pianos just lack much of their potential versatility in timbre. Especially great job was done on the mark V when I was thinking it couldn't get a lot better then it already was. Well guess again. Now just by turning the tone control I can go from Light as a feather to Headhunters and I'm not even exaggerating. It's scary. Go check this dude out. -peace

Comments:  The rhodes I had was a 'mondaymachine'. It left the factory with wrong distances under the keys due to a number of wrong construction-details. It made the piano very hard to play. Over the years it lost its tune and some tones were not functioning.

Rob remodelled the frame, tuned the piano and fixed some broken parts. Now the piano has an excelent feel and plays like it's new.

Comments:  I brought Rob a 1974 Fender Rhodes MarkI Eighty-Eight that was in an unplayable state when I got it. It made a lot of noise, the keyboard felt very heavy and "murky", the sound was dead and unbalanced and several tines instantly died after hitting, or were just plain missing. I got it back this morning after Rob worked on it for a total of 25 hours and it is a dream come true. It turns out to be an excellent piano, Rob only had to put in 5 tines (including three that were missing altogether) and the entire piano just opened up completely. It is extremely responsive and well balanced now, and plays much easier than it did before. The sound is amazing, and much more open than I thought it'd be. I've played about 5 to 10 different Rhodes pianos, most of them MkI's, and plenty of electronic remakes, and I can honestly say this blows them all away with plenty to spare. You don't know what a Rhodes sounds like until you've got it restored and improved like this, and Rob did an excellent job.

There's virtually no noise anymore, and the little there is Rob recommended I eliminate myself by making a tin-foil sheet across and above the harp, a simple but time-consuming procedure. As a poor jazz piano student it was a lot of money to spend for me, but it was worth every penny. The best single amount of money I ever spent, hands down.

Thank you Rob, for turning this seemingly crappy old keyboard into an amazing and well-balanced instrument! I'll recommend you to anyone who asks, and some who don't!

Comments:  I'm a lucky man! Touring with Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage, playing my rhodes 73 Mark 1 (1974), customized by Rob. Never before my sound had the defenition it has now. Key action is clean, direct and faster than before. On my request Rob raised the pitch to 441,5 Hz. It matches better with mallets, brass and strings doing BigBand and Orchestra gigs. It also makes the sound even more brilliant. Rob did a great job!

Comments:  This fellow can do it all. He makes your Rhodes sound amzing. My 54 was allready in good shape, when I got it back I new I had to bring it long time ago. Everything sounded better and played better. He also gives you good advice how to tweak your eq's and amps to get that rich rhodes sound. Hé's the best. www.youngstudios.nl

Comments:  Rob revised my 1975 Mark 1 with wooden hamertips. I had the piano for 2 years and at first tried to customize it my self. At one point, I even thought about putting my Rhodes on ebay and buying another one because I was really not happy with the sound. Now the action is creat and it sounds perfect!

Comments:  Now the sound and action of my MK1 '79 is superb. AB'd it with my Nord Electro but you can't beat the real thing, especially when it's tuned this way. Can't wait to take it on stage with the guys from Arid. You did a very nice job, Rob. Thanks.

Comments:  After having played my '76 MkI Stage 73 for the last ten years, I got used to the stiff action, sloppy keys, bad tone and so on. I finally took the piano to Rob and he transformed this piano into a piano which is worth carrying the Rhodes name ! It's been said here before, but it's a total different piano. On my request he Herbie-fied the piano and it sounds like the 70-ies all over again !! Great tips and advice in how to get good sound with outboard equipment too. Highly recommended, don't hesitate, call him.
Thanks again Rob !
