Comments:  This album took Return to Forever in the rock direction, for better or worse. "Space Circus Parts 1 & 2" are my favorite tracks by far, with Part 1 being a Rhodes solo in Chick's "children's song" style. Part 2 has a great Rhodes intro too...that's the first lick I ever played on a Rhodes....

Comments:  Let me start by getting this out of the way, i absolutely love the first incarnation of RTF which only lasted two albums. Chick's Rhodes playing was just sublime as was the rest of the group. Then came the most popular phase of his career. Chick must have been listening to a lot of Mahavishnu Orchestra since he decided to turn his group into an almost clone of that band. Starting with this album you notice the influence right away: flashy guitar playing, cheesy Yamaha organ and soloing like there is no tomorrow. Chick's Rhodes playing is getting a lot more technical now but i will still give him points for his creative playing. This is where i part company with Chick as his next few albums will start to get more streamlined with oodles of synth cheese and bombastic playing from all involved.
