Maestro PS-1A
reviewer: Charlie Fenning (02/13/2006)

Ever listen to "No Quarter" on The Song Remains The Same? That's a Maestro PS-1A and a Rhodes!

The Maestro PS-1A was the first phase shifter guitar effect that I believe was supposed to be a Leslie imitator. I picked mine up here in Los Angeles on "Guitar Row" in Hollywood. The pedal is VERY simple to use. The large, colored rocker switches and a small, rocker switch (power) are the only controls on the entire pedal. The 3 large switches are the speed controls: slow, medium and fast. The slow has a wide, deep phase, while the medium has a Leslie-esque sound to it. The fast through a semi-driven tube amp could almost pass for a Leslie if EQ'd right. Not only does the Maestro sound great on the Rhodes, it also shines with a guitar, gets weird low end on a bass, and even sounded great when I sent an f/x loop from my recording interface into it, and used it for my drum overhead. All around, one of the best pedals ever!

Pros: Great sound, cool/vintage look, easy to use
Cons: A little big for a foot pedal, much bigger than modern single f/x

MP3 is the same lick, once with no effect, once on slow, once on fast.
